The 2026 e-scooter buyer's checklist

Shopping for an e-scooter in 2026? Work through this checklist before you part with a dollar, and you'll end up with a machine you keep.
1. Real-world range
Halve the claimed range, then check it still covers your commute. Hills, rider weight and cold mornings all eat battery.
2. Continuous motor power
Peak watts sell scooters; continuous watts climb hills. Insist on the continuous rating before comparing.
3. Brake hardware
Hydraulic discs stop wettest best, mechanical discs are fine, foot mudguards are a last resort.
4. Pneumatic tyres
Air-filled tyres transform comfort and grip over Sydney's broken footpaths. Only go solid if you refuse to ever pump a tyre.
5. Serviceability
Ask who fixes it, where, and for how much. A dealer-backed warranty beats a marketplace bargain with no parts pipeline.
